Tsolias at Golden Gate Bridge Marks Greece’s Bicentennial

A tsolias (evzone) appeared at the Golden Gate Bridge of San Franscisco to mark Greece’s Bicentennial.

The tsolias who is proudly holding the Greek flag is no other than Taso Zografos, the great patriot and dynamic President of the  United Hellenic American Societies (UHAS) of Northern California.

Zografos, along with other Greek-Americans has been instrumental in convincing California authorities to mark Greece’s Bicentennial by illuminating the iconic bridges and buildings in the State.

Thanks to his efforts, the pillars at LAX, the city of Los Angeles’ international airport, and the California State Assembly will be illuminated in the colors of Greece on the day and the Greek flag will also be raised at the California State Capitol Building in Sacramento.

Other buildings and areas which will also be illuminated to show respect for the Greek Bicentennial are the Richards/I-5 underpass, the Capitol Mall, the K street Tunnel, City College Pedestrian Bridge, Memorial Auditorium and the McKinley Underpass.

Pacific Wheel will have light show for Greece’s bicentennial

“Our Greek community in California is working together in unison to pay tribute to those who stood up to tyranny, sacrificed their lives in the fight against oppression, and bravely liberated Greece from occupation,” said Zografos.

“Hellenes and Philhellenes around the world continue to stand united in defense of freedom and liberty for all,” he stated in announcing the commemorations.

The Santa Monica Pier’s
“Pacific Wheel” will also have a special, evening-long Light Show for Greek Independence Day on the 25th.

“Our Greek community in California is working together in unison to pay tribute to those who stood up to tyranny, sacrificed their lives in the fight against oppression, and bravely liberated Greece from occupation” said Zografos.

The UHAS representing Greek Americans in California is a non-profit entity that was first established in 1954 to promote, preserve, and protect Greek culture, heritage, and tradition through strong community relations.
